The Gansu Darkling Beetle is a common darkling beetle (Tenebrionidae) of northwestern China's deserts, round-bodied and jet black. Its elytra (wing cases) are fully fused, and its hindwings are reduced, leaving it flightless for life — an adaptation that seals in moisture against extreme aridity.
