Its larvae bore into weakened or dead trees, adults feed on host leaves, and the elytra were historically used as inlay material in crafts.

A jewel beetle’s elytra color comes from thin-film interference, not pigment, so it never fades even after a century in a drawer. Elytra inlaid on the Tamamushi Shrine at Horyu-ji Temple still show iridescence.
