The Giant Ichneumon Wasp is a slender parasitic wasp; females trail an egg-laying tube (ovipositor) far longer than their body, drilling through centimeters of solid trunk to lay eggs near wood-boring larvae such as horntails. It does not sting — the needle-like structure is an ovipositor, not a stinger.

Anatomy
